Freiberg was a forced labor camp for male and female prisoners in the province of Saxony in the district of Freiberg. The camp was also called "Arbeitskommando Porzellanfabrik". The camp for male prisoners opened on May 3, 1944, and closed on September 15, 1944, according to an official report. Freia GmbH exploited male prisoners for forced labor in the production of aircraft undercarriages, in the stone quarry, and in clean-up work. The women's camp opened not later than August 31, 1944, and the Germans evacuated the prisoners to Mauthausen on April 15, 1945, according to camp documentation and an official report. The average population of the women's camp was 1,000 prisoners. Freia GmbH used the female prisoners to work in the Messerschmitt Flugzeugfabrik and Firma Hildebrand used female prisoners to work in the munitions factory. (en-US)
