Location: in North Africa on the Mediterranean Sea, bordered in 2000 by Tunisia, Libya, Western Sahara, Mauritania, Mali, Niger, and Morocco. Capital city: Algiers History: Algeria became a French colony by 1847 and the Jewish community, living mostly in Algiers, Oran, and Constantine, dated back to the Roman Empire, with their numbers increased by the Jews exiled from Spain.
