Definizione

The 11th summer Olympic Games took place in Berlin, Germany, from August 1-16, 1936. The Nazi government used the international sports competition as an opportunity for propaganda and to impress visitors and the press with a peaceful, prosperous image of Nazi Germany. Public evidence of anti-Jewish measures such as signs and anti-semitic publications were removed from view. Some athletes responded with boycotts and an alternative sporting event, the People's Games, were held in Barcelona, Spain, but was interrupted by the Spanish Civil War. In July, the Nazis also used the approaching event a pretext to round up Sinti and Roma living in Berlin to the Marzahn camp. (en-US)
