Le Murate prison was established in the 19th century on the site of a 16th century convent, in the neighborhood of Santa Croce, in the city of Florence. The prison served mostly female prisoners and it was operational till 1982. After the closing of the prison the buildings were planned to be converted into a social center, museum, school of higher education, offices and housing. (en-US)
