The Ardeatine Caves were a network of man-made caves that comprised part of the Christian catacombs along the Appian Way outside of Rome, Italy. On March 24, 1944 335 prisoners (77out of them were Jews) were driven into the caves by the Germans and executed in retaliation for an attack by Italian partisans. (en-US)
