Definizione

The plan to implement anti-Jewish measures against the Jewish community in Tunisia was delayed until March 1942, due to the efforts of the Vichy governor-general Jean-Pierre Estéva and the protest of the Italian community over the proposed confiscation of Jewish property. The Axis armed forces occupied Tunisia in November 1942 and began persecution against the Jewish community with the arrest of its leaders. Both the Germans and the Italians established several forced labor installations for the Tunisian Jews, usually in rural areas or isolated farms. The only actual camp with barracks, Bizerte, was established in the German sector in December 1942. (en-US)
