A school building of the Italian military in Rome. On October 16, 1943 the German SS under the command of Hauptsturmführer Theodor Dannecker started the roundup of the Jews of Rome. During that day 1,035 Jews were taken to the Collegio Militare building where they were held for two days before being deported to Auschwitz. (en-US)
