The Istria province comprised the southern part of the Istrian peninsula located between Italy and Yugoslavia and was considered part of the Venezia Giulia region of Italy. First named the Pola province with Pola as the capital city in 1919, it was renamed the Istria province in 1937. After the war, the province was ceded to the Croatian republic in Yugoslavia. (en-US)
