Definizione

The Bande Nere (Black Bands) were squads of Fascist militants that arose with the establishment of the Italian Social Republic in November 1943. The groups were recognized by the Fascist police and the occupying Germans and used as a semi-official task force to assist in the roundups of Jews and the capture of anti-Fascist partisans. The Bande Nere groups used torture and extortion to extract confessions and murdered many of their victims. Individual groups were named after the leaders: Pietro Koch led the Bande Nere in Rome and Milan after the liberation of Rome, and Mario Caritá headed the Bande Nere in Florence and Padua. (en-US)
