Milizia Volontaria per la Sicurezza Nazionale (MVSN) was established in January 1923 as a volunteer militia and political police for Mussolini and the Fascist Party. Also known as the Black Shirts, the MVSN was considered part of Italy's armed forces. Its duties included the thwarting of rebellion against the Fascist government. (en-US)
