Definizione

The Hebrew word Ashkenazi (meaning Germany) refers to the Jewish community and culture that originated from the Rhineland area of Germany and France and their descendents who migrated to Slavic territories in the medieval and renaissance periods. Ashkenazi Jews differ from Sephardic Jews in their synagogue rites and by the Yiddish language (Judeo-German). The term also refers to Ashkenazi culture and institutions. Ashkenzim comprise 80 percent of Jews worldwide. (en-US)
