Definizione

The Free Territory of Trieste was created in 1947 from the Italian port city of Trieste and surrounding territory on the Adriatic coast north of the Istrian peninsula. It was administered by the United Nations and divided into two zones: zone A was the city of Trieste proper administered by British and U.S. military forces; zone B was the territory to the south administered by Yugoslavia with Capodistria as the main city. In 1954 the city of Trieste was given back to Italy and the remaining territory to Yugoslavia. (en-US)
