Definizione

Location: In south-central Yugoslavia. As of 1921, the province bordered with Croatia, Dalmatia, Montenegro, and Serbia. Capital city: Sarajevo History: The province comprised two historical regions--Bosnia and Herzegovina, which before WWI were governed directly by Austrian administration. The population of province was of Muslim and Slavic origin. After 1929, when the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes was renamed Yugoslavia, the province of Bosnia and Herzegovina ceased to exist as an ethno-historic unit. Its territory was re-divided between the five newly created banovinas (district) whose borders did not coincide with the former ethnic or historic lines. (en-US)
