Definition: Following World War II, five Jewish refugee settlement kibbutzim (No. 1 and Nos. 3-6) operated in Grottaferrata, Italy, near Rome. In February 1946 kibbutz No. 1 was populated by twenty-six Italian children and five non-Italian adults; kibbutz No. 3 housed Czech and Hungarian Jewish Socialist Boy Scouts; kibbutz No. 4 was populated by Polish Jews in their late teens and early to mid twenties; kibbutz No. 5 was home to religious Jews from Poland, Romania, and Hungary; and kibbutz No. 6 was composed of approximately sixty Jewish Romanian Socialist Boy Scouts. The United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration (UNRRA) provided assistance to the Grottaferrata refugee kibbutzim. (en-US)
