Definizione

Eastern Orthodox Churches come from the Greek eastern basis of Catholicism beginning in the fourth century. The conventional date for the separation of Eastern Orthodoxy from Roman Catholicism is 1054 C.E., but the pillage of Constantinople by Crusaders in 1204 C.E. cemented the schism. Its main strength today lies in Slavic countries, Greece, and Romania. Used only for discussions of the "Orthodox Church" or "Eastern Orthodox Church" that did not note a specific Orthodox Church (e.g., "Russian Orthodox Church," etc.) (en-US)
