Definizione

A Christian church characterized by its uniform, highly developed doctrinal and organizational structure that traces its history to the Apostles of Jesus in the first century C.E. Initially faced with official Roman persecution, the Church was legally recognized in 313 C.E. and became the official religion of the Roman Empire in 380 C.E. The partition between Roman Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy is generally marked by the year 1054; the next great break from Roman Catholicism took place with the Protestant Reformation in the 16th century.
