The Italian government ran a number of displaced persons camps in Bari, Italy, after World War II. The camps included Arcivescovade, Stazione, and Piazza Roma. The United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration (UNRRA) assisted the Italian government in the operations of the displaced persons camps through aid and supplies. UNRRA also operated a displaced persons reception and transit camp in Bari under the code IT-31. Carbonara di Bari, near the city of Bari, Puglia region in southern Italy, was the site of another UNRRA displaced persons camp identified as D.P. Camp Carbonara, Bari. There was also an UNRRA Field Office located in Bari. UNRRA, with the assistance of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC), operated a number of Hachsharoth (vocational training centers) in Bari. There were Hachsharoth located at Via Salerno No. 182, Via Salerno 186, Vial Salerno No. 188, and Cozze di Mola. Other Hachsharoth in and around the Bari area included Dror Bamaale located at Via Salerno No. 159 and sponsored by Dror Habonim and Borochew, designated code S/41; Aba Berdiczew located at Via Salerno No. 207 and sponsored by Hanoar Hazioni, designated code S/42; Eliezer Geller located between Via Salerno No. 213 and No. 230 and sponsored by Gordoniah, designated code S/43; Nachlat Binjamin for Orthodox youths located between Via Re Davide No. 230 and No. 235 and sponsored by Agudah, designated code S/44; and Dror Kadimah located at Grumo, designated code S/45.
