Egyptian prime minister and leader of the Saadist party Ahmad Mahir was assassinated in 1945 after he gained parliament's approval to declare war on Germany and Japan. His successor made the official declaration of war on February 26, 1945. Egypt then became a founding member of the United Nations (en-US)
