Definition: Administrative seat: Munich (München) Upper Bavaria was bordered by Austria to the east and south and by the Bavarian administrative subunits (provinces) of Swabia to the west, Middle Franconia and Upper Palatinate to the north, and Lower Bavaria to the northeast. Together with Lower Bavaria and Upper Palatinate, the province comprises most of the historic region of Bavaria. The people of Upper Bavaria speak Bavarian, one of the three main German dialects in Bavaria. (en-US)
