Mandato Britannico della Palestina 1945   Cerca

Definizione

After the end of World War II, Britain attempts to reinstate restrictions on Jewish immigration to Palestine. However, the number of refugees coming to Palestine continues to increase. In May 1945, the Jewish Agency demands that Britain allow unrestricted Jewish immigration to Palestine and the establishment of it as a Jewish commonwealth. Later the Jewish Agency demands that immigration visas immediately be issued to 100,000 Jewish refugees waiting to enter Palestine. American President Harry S. Truman also pushes for these visas. Later that year, the United States legislature asks for unrestricted Jewish immigration to Palestine. This involvement further internationalizes the question of Palestine. The League of Arab States proclaims commitment to the Arab cause in Palestine. In December the Arab League begins a boycott of Zionist goods. The struggle between Arabs and Jews, temporarily paused during World War II, reemerges in the post-war struggle for Palestine. In November 1945 an Anglo-American commission of inquiry is formed to resolve the question of Jewish immigration to Palestine. (en-US)
