Definizione

A Czechoslovak province from 1918-1938. From the 11th century until 1918 Slovakia, was part of historic Hungary. Following the Munich Pact in October 1938, Slovakia became a semi-independent province of the so-called Second Czecho-Slovak Republic. Following the collapse of the Republic in March 1939, Slovakia lost its southern portion, known as Felvidék (Hungarian), and became a satellite state of Nazi Germany. Prior to World War II, Slovakia existed as a historical region, and later a province. During World War II Slovakia was a protectorate of Germany. After the second world war, it became a republic within the Czechoslovak Republic. As of January 1, 1993 Slovakia became independant. Capital: Bratislava (en-US)
