Capital: Périgueux. A dry, stony hill land, sloping SW from Massif Central to Aquitaine basin, and dissected by fertile valleys of Dordogne, Vezere, Isle and Dronne rivers, where wine, tobacco, wheat and corn are grown. The Department exports wines, walnuts and truffles. Department was formed in 1790 mainly from old district of Perigord. (en-US)
