Definizione

The Bialystok voivodship was located in northeastern Poland between the wars. The area had belonged to the Russian empire since 1807 and then to Poland after WWI. The capital city was Bialystok. The city's Jewish community dated back to the 18th century and approximately half of the community perished in the Holocaust. After WWII, much of the area was incorporated into the new voivodship of Podlaskie. 1900-1917: Russia 1918-1920: Disputed between Soviet Russia and Poland 1920-1939: Poland 1939-1941: Annexed to the USSR 1941-1944: Occupied by Germany (Bialystok) 1944: Liberated by Soviet Army 1945- : Poland (en-US)
