Use for discussions of experiences with the German Red Cross. (en-US)

The German Red Cross (Deutsches Rotes Kreuz) was founded as the "Central Committee for the Care of Wounded and Sick Soldiers" in 1879 and changed its name to the German Red Cross in 1898. It became an official member of the International Red Cross in 1922. During the Nazi era, the DRK was expected to conform to the idea of "Führerprinzip" like all other organizations in Germany, and its bylaws were rewritten in 1937. When the Allies occupied Germany in 1945, the DRK was dissolved in both the US and Soviet zones. In 1949, the German Red Cross was re-established in West Germany and re-structured yet again when West and East Germany were united in 1990. (en-US)
