Definizione

The first conflict between Israel and its Arab neighbors (Egypt, Transjordan, Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon) which followed the establishment of the State of Israel on May 14, 1948. This war left Israel in control of most of the former British Mandate of Palestine, with the exception of the West Bank of the Jordan River and East Jerusalem, both of which remained under the control of Jordan.
