Definizione

One of the High Holidays. The Jewish New Year and day of judgment (Yom Ha-Din), this holiday commemorates the creation of the world. During this holiday, Jews are encouraged to rejoice over the new year as well as concentrate on repentance, prayer, and acts of loving kindness to mitigate the severity of God's judgment on the past year. It is observed by sounding the shofar (ram's horn), attending synagogue, and eating festive meals (including apples and honey). The prohibtions are similar to those on Shabbat, with the exception of cooking, carrying, and transferring fire. (en-US)
