By early 1941, some two hundred Jewish labor camps are in operation. Germany occupies Eastern Poland after the beginning of the war with the USSR on June 22. In December, a special penal code for Poles and Jews is introduced in the annexed territories. On December 7, the first camp which uses gas for killing is put into operation at Chelmno. (en-US)
