On May 12, 1926, Joseph Pilsudski stages a military coup and establishes an authoritarian military regime. Jews initially support Pilsudski, believing him sympathetic to the idea of Jewish national autonomy . On January 26, 1934, Poland accepts Hitler's offer of a nonaggression treaty. On May 12, 1935, Pilsudski dies. Jews continue to receive virtually no state funds for their cultural institutions, and they remain the victims of wide-ranging economic discrimination. (en-US)
