Cominform (the organization of European Communist parties) announces the expulsion of Yugoslavia on June 28, 1948. With the establishment of the state of Israel, Yugoslavia permits emigration: 7,578 Jews leave for Israel during 1948-1952. The 1953, 1963, and 1974 constitutions all legitimize moves toward de-centralization and federalization. About 5,000 Jews live in Yugoslavia, mostly in Belgrade, Zagreb, and Sarajevo. (en-US)
