The Red Army liberates Warsaw on January 17. Churchill, Roosevelt, and Stalin meet at the Yalta Conference February 4-11. Konigsberg (Kaliningrad) in East Prussia is liberated on April 9 and incorporated into the USSR. Soviet troops enter Vienna on April 11. On April 25, advanced Russian units meet American troops on the Elbe river. On May 2, the Red Army liberates Berlin. On May 8, the Second World War in Europe ends.
