Definition: In January, the Allies rechannel military supplies from the Chetniks to Tito's partisans. Backa, annexed by Hungary, is occupied by Germans in March; thousands of Jews are deported to Auschwitz during May and June. On August 26, the King recognizes Tito as the sole military leader of Yugoslav resistance. In September, Germans begin a general withdrawal of the Balkans; on October 20, Tito's partisans and the Red Army take Belgrade. (en-US)
