Definition:
By March, Slovakia has resettled 6,700 Jews in Trnara, Nitra, and eastern Slovakia. The first deportations of Slovak Jews begin on March 27, mostly to Auschwitz, Majdanek, and Lublin. Assertive action by Slovak Jewish leadership contributes to the cessation of deportations in October. In the Protectorate of Bohemia-Moravia, deportations continue from Theresienstadt; Reinhard Heydrich's assassination (May 27) prompts a special transport of 1,000 Czech Jews. (en-US)
