Definizione

The process, or the resulting fact which denotes an individual person's acceptance of the yoke of mitzvot (commandments). Though predicated on an individuals desire to convert for reasons of ideological and communal commonality, The Torah (Five Books of Moses) understands this as a relatively simple change of status, as determined by immersion in a mikva (ritual bath) and ritual circumcision (for males only). The rabbinic tradition however, has attached a period of study and communal immersion, the nature of which in modernity can vary, depending on the community or movement through which a person chooses to enter the people of Israel.
