Definizione

Definition: Prior to Germany's westward invasion beginning on May 10, Jewish refugees stream into France from the Low Countries. Paris falls on June 14. The armistice (June 22) cedes a small northern region to the German Command in Brussels and leaves northern and Eastern France German-occupied. Many Jews flee to the unoccupied southeastern (Vichy) France. The "Statut des Juifs" of October 3 legalizes the exclusion of Jews from the civil service. 30,000 Jews successfully cross the southern border of France. (en-US)
