After a short period of time a total of 3,200 Jews, including those from surrounding communities were transferred to warehouses of a local coal mine. Prior to the evacuation of the ghetto, all the males of working age were selected from the ghetto population and enlisted into Forced Labor Battalions. On June 12, 1944, the remaining ghetto population was deported to Auschwitz. About 120 survivors of the Holocaust returned to Salgótarján after the war. (en-US)
