Capital city: Breslau
Silesia, a former Prussian province, was split into two parts after World War I. Upper Silesia, the smaller of the two, contained the territory in the southeast and was divided between Poland, Germany, and Czechoslovakia. In 1921 the greater part of Upper Silesia became the Polish province of Slask. Lower Silesia, the larger of the two, contained the territory in the northwest and remained in Germany. The province of Lower Silesia comprised two administrative subunits, Breslau and Liegnitz. (en-US)
